Connecting places and memories

Art has an incredible ability to connect us with our emotions and memories. In this case, my Richmond Park art print was customised in memory of my client’s mother and a place they both loved.

Amanda was considering purchasing my Richmond Park print as the park held so many special memories of time spent with her mum. As we talked, she mentioned how they would be planting a tree in the park in memory of her mum. She loved the colours and composition of my illustration so we discussed the idea of customising it with subtle symbols representing her mum and her family, including the tree that would be planted.

The Process

The customisation process involved finding a delicate balance between the original illustration and Amanda’s memories. I wanted to ensure it encapsulated love, warmth, and nostalgia. We talked through each element that we wanted to include, and Amanda sent me photos of the tree they had planted. The shape of the magnolia tree was so distinctive and this took the spotlight.

The result was a warm and evocative commission that was ultimately about preserving memories, celebrating love and family, and using nature and art to communicate.

“Rowana produced a beautiful bespoke print for me. Her ideas and understanding of what I wanted resulted in a wonderful print, full of meaning, in memory of my mother and a place that she loved.”
